Karyl Pierce Paxton is a nationally-acclaimed
designer of home products that are licensed and sold
worldwide. Her creations feature a hint of the past,
yet they are ideally suited for today’s homes.
Her award-winning designs combine Old World elegance
with modern sensibility.
Influenced by the centuries-old patinas
and classical architecture of her adopted hometown of
New Orleans, Karyl creates lighting collections and
home products ranging from chandeliers and furniture
to bathroom fixtures. She currently produces a diverse
range of lighting collections for Savoy House and is
creating a bathroom furnishings and fixture collection
for a national home improvement retailer. She is also
known for her exquisite signature furniture, which showcase
18th-Century style and the lost art of hand-painted
finishes.
Karyl grew up on the desert plateaus
of West Texas. After graduating from high school, she
briefly showed and trained horses before moving to Mississippi
to study art, architecture and antiques. Upon receiving
a BFA in graphic design from Mississippi University
College for Women, Karyl moved to New York City and
attended Parsons School of Design for advanced study
in fashion design. Karyl then moved to Jackson, Mississippi,
where in 1991 she opened her namesake business –
Pierce Paxton Design Studio. There, she created award-winning
commercial and residential interiors. Because she was
often frustrated in her pursuit of the perfect appointments
for her discerning residential clientele, she began
producing and hand-painting signature furniture and
lighting. Her clients loved them, and so did other discriminating
interior designers. Meeting the demand for her custom
furniture and lighting quickly became the focus of Pierce
Paxton Design Studio.
To meet the need for additional artists
and craftsmen to produce her line, Karyl moved her business
to New Orleans. Today, she creates products that are
destined to become heirlooms.
